Alternatives for Original Medicare

Medicare Part C offers coverage combines all of the benefits of Medicare Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) while adding prescription drug, dental, and/or vision coverage (depending on the plan specifics for your county.)

These Advantage Plans are offered by private insurance companies contracted through Medicare as alternatives for Original Medicare.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

A prescription drug plan may help you save.

A prescription drug plan may help you save money on existing prescriptions or on medication needs in the future.

Medicare Part D plans add prescription drug coverage to Original Medicare, some Medicare Cost Plans, some Medicare Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account (MSA) Plans.

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Medigap is additional coverage for costs not covered by Medicare:

  • co-payments,
  • deductibles, and
  • health care if you travel outside the U.S.

There are 10 Medigap plans, identified as a letter. The most common plans will be Parts F, G and N:

  • The F plan covers all of Part A and B
  • The G plan covers All of Part A and B you cover part B deductible one per year
  • The N plan covers All of Part A and B you cover part B deductible one per year plus a $20.00 copay & $50.00 copay for ER. plus all medicare excess charges.

Special Needs Plans

Special Needs Plans for those with both Medicare (title XVIII) and medical assistance from the state.

Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) enroll individuals who are entitled to both Medicare (title XVIII) and medical assistance from a state plan under Medicaid (title XIX). States cover some Medicare costs, depending on the state and the individual’s eligibility. - CMS.gov

Dual Complete is a subsidized program under Medicare Advantage plans and requires you to have both Medicare and Medicaid.
